Introducing Google Pixel 8a
Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 8a, the latest addition to its A-series lineup and the most budget-friendly option in the Pixel 8 series.
The Pixel 8a boasts an updated design compared to its predecessor, now sporting more rounded corners in line with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The phone features a plastic back and aluminum frame with a smooth matte texture, while the front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Additionally, it comes with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, making it the most durable A-series phone yet.
Available in four stylish colors – Bay, Aloe, Porcelain, and Obsidian – the Pixel 8a offers a sleek and modern aesthetic.
One of the standout features of the Pixel 8a is its new 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display boasts impressive brightness levels, capable of reaching up to 1400 nits when playing HDR content, with a peak brightness of 2000 nits.
On the camera front, the Pixel 8a sports a dual-camera setup on the back, comprising a 64MP primary camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens. For selfies, there's a 13MP front-facing camera. Both rear and front cameras can shoot 4K video at 30fps, with the rear cameras also capable of 4K video at 60fps. The device offers a range of photography features, including astrophotography timelapse, slow motion, and various stabilization modes.
Under the hood, the Pixel 8a is powered by Google's Tensor G3 chipset, accompanied by 8GB of LPDDR5x memory. Storage options include 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
In terms of battery life, the Pixel 8a packs a sizable 4492mAh battery, promising over 24 hours of usage. It supports 18W wired fast charging and Qi wireless charging.
Running on Android 14 out of the box, the Pixel 8a will receive seven years of OS, security, and Feature Drop updates, along with other exclusive Google features like Circle to Search and Pixel Call Assist.
Additional features include stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 6e, Bluetooth 5.3, USB 3.2 connectivity, NFC, and dual SIM (nano + eSIM) support.
The Pixel 8a is priced at $499 / €549 for the 128GB model and $559 / €609 for the 256GB model. Pre-orders are now available in the US, with availability in Nigeria yet to be announced
