MTN UPGRADE NETWORK TO 4G+ IN SOME SELECTED CITIES
Nigeria Telco giant,
MTN has launched advanced 4G network in selected cities of Lagos, Abuja and
Port Harcourt. The 4G+ service runs on 4G LTE Advanced Technology
(800 MHz spectrum and 2600 MHz). In practice, it simply means devices will be
able to access the internet at a speed up to 200 Mbps.
A standard HD
video of around 60 minutes will be downloaded in less than 8 minutes. That mean,
a 600MB file might not take more than 5 minutes.
A source within
MTN Nigeria said “the service is immediately available and will deliver much
higher broadband speeds, a more consistent connection and significant
improvement in indoor coverage”.
Despite the fact
that the existing 4G network covers less than 30 percent of the country, MTN
still prefer upgrading facilities at some selected cities than providing such
on a wider scale for Nigerians.
This is similar to Ntel that came with so much
hype but have not been able to reach beyond some few cities of the country.
