After the death of Blackberry BBM just 3 days ago, Apple has also announced that its music download platform iTunes will no longer be available again. The tech giant will announce the iTunes shutdown at a developer conference that begins Monday.

It is now clearly seen that subscription-based streaming services like Apple Music and many other have overtaken music downloads. Streaming now count for 75% of the U.S. music industry’s revenue. 

18 years ago, iTunes was introduced at the 2001 Macworld Expo. it has grown successfully and becoming a one-stop shop for users to consume media that includes music, movies, and TV.

Apple has other plans for its iTunes and that is by replacing it with three new apps: Music, TV, and Podcasts.

These decentralization has already be done on both the iPads and iPhones, which now offer the trio of apps. Now, it’s a matter of migrating it to Macs and Macbooks.

Apple is quickly repositioning itself as a multifaceted entertainment services provider as much as a hardware company.

Nigerians who deal in ITunes card will have to be careful in stocking the card as the might become bad business once iTunes is no longer in use.
